bánh mì thịt
Vietnam · Southeast Asia

Bánh mì thịt is a Vietnamese meat sandwich made in a short baguette with a crisp crust and soft, airy centre. Fillings include grilled pork, char siu, chả lụa pork sausage, cold cuts or pork meatballs in tomato sauce. Pickled carrot and daikon, cucumber, coriander and chillies add crunch, acidity and fresh flavour.[1]
Vicky Pham describes spreading the split bread with pâté and an egg-yolk-and-oil mayonnaise. The pâté is commonly made with pork liver, although chicken or duck liver can be used. Carrot and daikon are pickled in vinegar, water and sugar, and the sandwich is seasoned with Maggi sauce or light-coloured soy sauce. A fried egg is another possible addition.[1]
