Masala-coated fish served on opened banana leaves.
Meen Pollichathu

Meen pollichathu is a Kerala fish preparation cooked with spices inside banana-leaf parcels. Suguna Vinodh describes pearl spot as the customary fish but uses thick fish cuts in her version. The fish is seasoned with salt, turmeric and chilli, then briefly fried in coconut oil before the leaf-wrapped cooking.[1]

Shallots or onions, curry leaves and ginger are softened in coconut oil; tomatoes, turmeric, chilli and ground coriander follow. Fresh grated coconut and coriander leaves finish the masala. Fish is enclosed between portions of this mixture in softened banana leaves. The parcels cook on both sides in a covered pan and are served with lemon or lime wedges, alone or with Kerala matta rice.[1]
