Barmbrack

Barmbrack is an Irish fruit loaf associated with Halloween. Donal Skehan recalls receiving it in his school lunchbox around the holiday and describes the custom of hiding a ring inside the loaf. His preparation soaks mixed dried fruit in cold tea and whiskey before it is incorporated into the dough.[1]

Skehan combines plain flour, baking powder, light brown sugar and mixed spice with an egg and some of the fruit-soaking liquid. The fruit is stirred into the moist dough, which is baked in a lined loaf tin. He serves it sliced with butter and tea.[1]
