Kushikatsu

Kushikatsu are deep-fried skewers of meat, seafood or vegetables, particularly associated with Osaka. Ingredients are skewered, coated in flour-and-water batter and breadcrumbs, then fried. Choices include beef, shrimp, asparagus, eggs and cheese. Cabbage and a dipping sauce commonly accompany the skewers.[1]

Shinsekai’s Janjan Yokocho is known for its kushikatsu restaurants, though the dish is sold elsewhere in Osaka too. At counters with a shared sauce container, the familiar rule against dipping a skewer twice keeps a bitten piece out of the sauce. Restaurants range from casual drinking places to those serving more elaborate combinations.[1]
