Luqaimat
United Arab Emirates · Middle East and North Africa

Luqaimat are small fried sweets made from yeast-leavened dough in Emirati and wider Middle Eastern cooking. They are crisp outside and soft and airy within, and are commonly finished with date syrup and sesame seeds. They are served warm after frying.[1]
Chef Sajjad Hussain’s version uses flour, yeast, sugar, milk and egg, with saffron, cardamom and fennel seeds. The risen mixture is shaped into small balls and fried until browned. Hussain also suggests honey or maple syrup as alternatives to the date syrup.[1]
