Philly cheesesteak

The cheesesteak is closely associated with Philadelphia, where rib-eye beef is cooked on a griddle and placed in a long, crusty roll. Cheez Whiz, American cheese and provolone are common choices. Griddled onions are optional, and other additions can include sautéed mushrooms or hot and sweet peppers.^[1]

Ordering often begins with the choice of cheese, followed by whether to include onions. The local terms wit and widout mean with or without onions; a Whiz wit therefore combines cheese sauce and onions. A cheesesteak hoagie adds cold sandwich ingredients such as lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise. Cheesesteaks are sold at steak shops, delis, food trucks and pizzerias.^[1]
